Foi no dia 28 de Junho que tive oportunidade de participar em algo que foi uma agradável surpresa e experiência. Apesar de já ter tido a oportunidade de deambulado por algumas ruas do Bairro de Alfama, a verdade é que nunca o tinha feito com olhos de ver! Aliás, acho que passamos mais de metade da vida a ver muito mal tudo o que nos rodeia e no entanto até me considero uma pessoa atenta! É cansativo, dói o corpo, dói os pés, mas acima de tudo dói porque passou rápido e por porque havia tanto a ver com olhos de ver, tanto a explorar e tanto a confraternizar… mas o dia só tem 24 horas! Aqui ficam algumas fotos…

II Digital Photography Marathon in Alfama_ It was in the past 28th of June that I had the opportunity to participate in something that was a pleasant experience. Although I had the opportunity to walk in some streets of the Alfama neighborhood, the true is that I’ve never made that with eyes wide open. Indeed, we go through live many times not seeing what is around us, although I think myself as someone quit aware! It’s exhausting, the body hurts, the feet’s hurts, but above all it hurt because it passes by so fast and because there were so much more to see with eyes wide open, to explore and to leran… but the day just have 24 hours! And here are some photos…

Não sei muito bem se devo ou não, colocar este trabalho… mas não digo se devo ou não devo mostrar, porque na realidade já esteve incluído numa exposição. “ És tu” foi criada no contexto das Comemorações de S. Francisco Xavier, para concurso Arte e Espiritualidade e foi seleccionada para estar presente na exposição que se realizou na Cordoaria Nacional em Fevereiro de 2006. Trata-se de uma obra composta por três composições enquadradas por tela, trabalhadas à mão entre o pesponto e a escultura. Cada uma delas representa a forma como se olha para a espiritualidade, criticando de certa forma o pretensiosismo em torno da ideia. Por isso, a ultima tela é construída com um espelho, para que o espectador possa de uma forma participativa fazer esta auto-análise.

It’s you_ I don’t know if I should present this piece …, because to tell the true, it has been exposed. “It’s you” was made for the Commemoration of St. Francisco Xavier, under the subject Art and Spirituality and it was select for the exposition that took place in National Cordoaria in February 2006. It is a work involving three framed canvas, worked by hand between the backstitch and sculpture. Each one represents the way that we see the spirituality, criticizing in one way the pretentious around the idea. Reflecting that, the last frame has a mirror for the spectator make this self-analysis.

Cicatriz

E voltando aos meus projectos… com o pesponto salto do geométrico para disforme, tirando proveito do acto de rasgar, do incerto, do coser, dos limites, do novo rasgo, do novo pesponto, da costura, da cicatriz… e da cicatriz salto para o problema do corpo, para a fragilidade do nosso recipiente e para a facilidade como se manipula a matéria. Cicatriz sobre cicatriz, que resulta da dor que rasga, da dor que cobre… O subterfúgio nas camadas que se vão acumulando de cicatriz sobre cicatriz…

Scar_ And coming back to my projects… with the backstitch I jump from the geometric to the deformed, taking advantage of the act of tearing, the uncertain, the sewing, the limits, the new shred, the new backstitch, the sewing, the scar… and from the scar I jump to the tribulations of the body, for the fragility of our recipient and for how easy you can manipulate the matter. Scar over scar that results from the pain that shreds, the pain that covers. The subterfuge in the layers that will accumulate from scar to scar.

E como na vida há tantas, mas tantas coisas boas, não posso deixar de partilhar também o resultado de mais um momento de amizade (Sofia, Gustavo, Sandra, Marco), de companheirismo, de aprendizagem, de criatividade, de risos, de degustação, de exploração, de multiculturalismo… A melhor parte da receita já foi dada, mas não posso deixar de acrescentar o sushi, as saladas mediterrânicas, o abacate, o abacaxi, a laranja, a sangria de champanhe com frutos silvestres, o gelado de morango com coraçõezinhos de chocolate ;) e claro, acompanhar um bom som brasileiro. Experimentem… mas atenção o segredo está na participação de todos na confecção… ;)

The weekend And because in life there is so many, many good things, it’s not possible to forget and share the results of one more moment of true friendship (Sofia, Gustavo, Sandra, Marco), of fellowship, of learning, of creativity, of laughter, of tasting, of exploration, of multiculturalism… The best part of the recipe is already here, but I cannot forget to mention the home made sushi, the Mediterranean salad, the avocado, the pineapple, the orange, the champagne sangria with berries, the strawberry ice cream with chocolate hearts ;) and off course, a really cool Brazilian music. Try it… but be careful, the secret for the success is on everyone’s input and help on the making… ;)

Continuando no mesmo projecto… nos dois últimos anos de licenciatura (2001/2002), intensifiquei o número de experiencias e de possíveis percursos a desenvolver no projecto. Uma dessas vertentes foi a projecção numa superfície de 3 metros por 2 metros de mdf, um dos desenhos já desenvolvido, através da criação de pontos que permitam construir o desenho projectado com uma linha preta continua . Simplificando, após a passagem dos pontos estruturais do desenho para a placa, foram pregados pregos nestes mesmos pontos que iriam suportar uma linha, em que o seu percurso contorna a forma dos objectos projectados através de um simples jogo de passagem de linha. Infelizmente não tenho muitos registos de um trabalho que levou 3 meses a ser concretizado e que desapareceu … talvez tenha sido reciclado… Ao mesmo tempo dou inicio ao pesponto.

Surface_ Developing further more the same project… in the last two years of my degree (2001/2002), I step a great number of new experiences and new directions in order to enrich the project. One of those, was the construction in a surface of a 3 per 2 meters in MDF where was projected a drawing, previously designed, with the inclusion of small points that allows the delimitation of the drawing with a continued black line. Simplifying, after putting the structural points of the drawing into the plate, I pinned nails that supports the thread, building the forms of the drawing. Unfortunately, I don’t have much photography’s to document a piece that took me 3 months to make and that in the end disappeared … maybe was recycle … At the same time I started backstitch.

O nascimento de um projecto

Durante os dois últimos anos de curso desenvolvi um projecto que teve várias vertentes, com origem numa série de desenhos que fiz entre 2000 e 2001 … São desenhos feitos à "mão levantada", a caneta e sem qualquer rigor técnico. Os espaços representados são feitos através das memórias que retive ao longo dos anos de locais que frequentei e que deixei de frequentar, como casa de familiares, de amigos e de lazer. A tridimensionalidade e a forma estrutural dos espaços são identificadas apenas pelo traço de contorno, despojando-os da matéria, do físico e da singularidade. Permanecendo apenas a identidade estrutural. No último grupo de desenhos que criei em 2002, deporei ainda mais o conceito de reconhecimento colectivo. Apesar da reduzida representação da forma do objecto no espaço, a composição e a relação espacial/tridimensional, permite manter a relação significado e o significante. Infelizmente estes trabalhos perdem muita qualidade neste tipo de interface.

A birth of a Project_ During the two last years of my arts degree, I developed a project that has several views and inputs, and had his beginning on a serial of draws that I made between 2000 and 2001… This draws were made by hand, with a pen and without any rigor technique. The places that are represented are made by memories that I have from those places and I’ve kipped all through this years, like houses of close family, friends or places I’ve enjoyed. The tridimensional and the structural form of the spaces are identified by the stroke, despoiling them of the matter, its physically and singularity, using only the structural identity. In the last group of draws that I made in 2002, I’ve evidenced more and more the concept of collective knowledge. Beside the reduced representation of the form of the object in space, the composition and the relationship between space and tridimensional allows the relation between the meaning and significance.

Caldas Late Nigth

Por falar em várias experiencias, não posso de e deixar de falar dos trabalhos que foram feitos em conjunto com amigas (Sofia e a Inês), no âmbito do Caldas Late Nigth, que consistia em abrir as portas da nossa casa uma vez por ano e tornar a nossa casa num espaço de galeria. Algo que ficou e que todos os anos acontece…

Caldas Late Nigth_ And talking about new experiences, I cannot go by without referring to the pieces that I create along whit my colleagues/friends (Sofia ang Inês), on the event Caldas late Night, which main propose was for all participants open their homes and use them like a gallery. This Art event happens every year…

A fotografia

Desenho, pintura, serigrafia, gravura, xilogravura… técnicas, experiências… mas a fotografia foram horas e horas em câmara escura. Para além de tirar proveito da técnica e da feroz possibilidade de manipulação da imagem fotografada, que não acontece só com o surgimento do digital, há uma grande preocupação pelo significado contido no singular de cada fotografia e no significado que resulta da junção das duas ou três fotografias (e poderia apoiar-me em todos as questões apontadas por Walter Benjamin). E mais uma vez reforço, o trabalho é todo analógico… mas o analógico versos o digital é uma conversa para depois…

Photography_ Drawing, painting, screen printing, engraving … techniques, experimenting… but with photography hours after hours were spent in a darkroom. Besides taking advantage of technique and the strong possibility of photograph manipulation, something that does not only happens with the birth of digital photography, there is a strong concern with each singularity contained on each single photography and on the what does mean the blending of two or three photos (and I can use all the theory point by Walter Benjamin to support this idea). And once again I would like to stress, all the work is analog… but the analog versus digital is a conversation for next time… Unfortunately this work loose a lot of quality in this type of interface.

Um possível inicio…

Por onde começar um blogue? Complicado… supostamente pelo principio de algo… mas qual é o principio? Vou simplificar, principalmente porque penso que devo fazer este tributo. Os meus três primeiros anos de formação foram em escultura. Sim… barro, gesso, positivo/negativo, madeira, ferro, acrílicos, resinas, pedra (partir pedra) e mais não sei quantos materiais complementares. Muita técnica e pouco conceito, mas por outro a criatividade, o desenho, o protótipo, a técnica, a matéria, a forma, a composição, o equilíbrio…

A possible beginning… _ From where should I start? It’s complicate… perhaps from the beginning of something… but what is the beginning? I’ll simplify, because I think that I should do this tribute. The first three years of my formation revolved around sculpture. Yes… clay, plaster, positive / negative, wood, iron, acrylic, resin, stone and many other materials. A lot of technique but few concept, but on the other hand the creativity, the drawing, the prototype, the technique, the matter, the shape, the composition, the balance…
